ALBION Sports stunned leaders AFC Mansfield with a 3-0 home win in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League last night.

The Albion Lions have experienced an average season by their own standards but they opened up a two-goal first half lead and were always on course to defend that advantage when the visitors were reduced to 10 men after the break.

The deadlock was broken midway through the first half when Alex Cusack opened the scoring and Paul Beesley doubled the home side’s lead just two minutes later.

Into the second half Albion’s leading scorer Danny Facey was denied by an offside flag after he had netted a spectacular overhead kick.

Soon after the Bulls had a man sent off, Matty Plummer shown a straight red card for a professional foul and later lost Liam Marsden to a second yellow card.

Cusack wrapped up the three points when he netted the Lions’ third goal, the winger struck in the 70th minute to leave Rudy Funk's Bulls looking over their shoulders as their nearest challengers have games in hand.

In Division One second-placed Eccleshill United were thwarted by the weather but Campion enjoyed a 2-0 win after their away game at AFC Emley got the go ahead.

The black and reds took the lead when Danny Cunningham headed in following a 27th-minute set-piece.

Campion doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half when Matthias Britton converted a corner with another header.

James Bicknell’s side broke through the 60-point barrier with the win and moved up to eighth after taking seven points from three games in five days, beginning with last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Grimsby Borough who were third at the time.

Eccleshill’s home game against fellow promotion chasers Yorkshire Amateur, which was washed out last night, has been re-scheduled for Monday April 30.
