BRADFORD No 1 AA

The wet and snowy conditions over the Easter weekend put a lot of fishing plans on hold, but with warmer weather forecast over the next couple of weeks, hopefully winter may now finally be behind us! Nevertheless, some members did venture out and were rewarded with good catches.

Good nets of roach and skimmers have been caught from the main lake at Shelf Dam on pole or waggler with maggot, while Raskelf Lake is producing excellent catches of F1s and ide, particularly from the shallow end of the lake. Carp are also beginning to show at Knotford Lagoon, with fish up to 20lb 8oz being caught this week.

Club membership is still available to buy from all the usual tackle-shop agents and online at www.bradfordno1.com. Members from 2017 can still renew without paying the joining fee.

LISTERHILLS AA

Result of silver-fish only members' match at Gilmores (exposed bottom pond), affected by gusting winds and rain in last hour on Wednesday, March 21: 1 J Harrison 4lb 3oz, 2 G Kitchen 2lb, 3 E Harrison 1lb 11oz, 4 G Reeday 11oz. Next members' match is on Sunday, April 15 at Kippax Park (contact 07518-721051). Members are reminded that Pilleys Dam is still under club control and is not free fishing as some anglers think. The canal is starting to pick up but fish are still in pockets so location is paramount to good sport.

SKIPTON AA

It's just over a week since the Yorkshire brown-trout season opened, and so far it's been very quiet indeed, thanks mainly to the inclement weather that appears to be keeping anglers away from the waterside in droves. Up until Easter Monday, river water levels had remained reasonably acceptable for angling, but following the widely forecast snowfall, a gradual increase in temperature by evening produced a spell of heavy rain which, coupled with melting snow, looked at the time of writing very likely to produce a bank topper or even flooding of the adjacent fields.

Sport on our reservoirs has seen an improvement since opening day when conditions have been decent. Last Sunday some tiger trout turned up in catches, alongside the more common rainbows, at Embsay Reservoir, although brown trout have still been few and far between.

Whinnygill Reservoir has also begun to produce coarse fish, and the best recorded catch for some weeks has been an excellent bag of quality roach and a single bream taken by David Fenn. Brown trout are not numerous in the reservoir and recent catches have been poor. To make up for the lack of quantity, the trout are quality fish and there is a good chance of getting a personal-best specimen.

Sport may finally begin to improve on all waters by this weekend, with forecasts of temperatures reaching a breath- taking 15C. Providing there is not much more rainfall, there may be better sport on the reservoirs, and the River Aire may have fallen to a fishable level as well.

On Sunday, our re-arranged River Aire clean-up on either side of the Carleton Stone Bridge takes place. Anyone wishing to take part should meet at the bridge for 10am. All materials will be provided, and participants are advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
