LIVERSEDGE’S fixture chaos was worsened yesterday when their home derby against Thackley was called off, leaving the Clayborners with 13 games still to play this month unless a decision is made to extend the season.

The scheduled end to the Toolstation Northern Counties East League is the last Saturday of April. Jonathan Rimmington’s men would have just 25 days left to play their remaining games, one of which is a cup tie.

Last night’s Premier Division derby against the Dennyboys was washed out after the recent inclement weather, as was Albion Sports’ trip to face Hall Road Rangers.

With the clubs now facing severe difficulties to shoehorn the number of remaining fixtures into such a short space of time, the league is seeking a solution.

The NCEL confirmed on Monday that they will be discussing the plight of their member clubs with FA representatives over the next few days and an announcement will be made in due course.

Meanwhile Campion did see some action last night and they earned a three-point maximum from a five-goal thriller. The black and reds made the short journey to Glasshoughton Welfare in Division One and won 3-2.

The visitors held a slender lead at the break after Jahro Parchment had broken the deadlock in the 38th minute. James Bicknell’s side doubled their lead in the second half through Mark Ferguson.

The home side hit back when Andy Horbury halved Campion’s advantage but a Jason Davies strike saw the visitors restore their two-goal advantage.

That was how it remained until the last minute, Adam Walsh netting a consolation goal for Glasshoughton.
