NICKY Law has described City’s current slump as the worst he has experienced.

The midfielder is back in the side after two months out.

But he admits their form right now is a total contrast to what he has been used to since returning to Valley Parade 21 months ago.

City go into Saturday’s home game against Gillingham on the back of three straight losses without a goal and they have not won in ten.

Law said: “This is a terrible run and the worst I have been on in my career. There are a lot of people feeling low in that changing room.

“We just can’t get that first win. It is just not happening.

“Compared to the previous 18 months, it is such a contrast and the complete opposite end of the scale.

“Football is all about confidence and unfortunately we have none right now.”

Law was probably City’s brightest performer in the 2-0 defeat at Doncaster but he could detect the low mood within the team once they fell behind in the second half.

“I sensed there was a lack of belief about us getting back into the game,” he added. “We had nothing to lose but, for some reason, we stopped doing what the manager had been asking us.

“The only way to turn that round is hard work.

“I know that is boring and the fans are probably fed up of hearing the same thing. But we have to show some fight on Saturday.

“Our pitch obviously isn’t ideal for good football so we have to do more of what the manager is asking us to do. And get better at it.

“For 18 months, it has been good football. But then all of a sudden, as we try to change our tactics, we are struggling.

“It is time to roll up our sleeves and be horrible. Get the ball into the box and ask questions.”

Simon Grayson has reminded his squad that everyone is playing for their future over the final ten games.

Law, who is out of contract in the summer, had been out of the starting line-up since Stuart McCall’s departure.

He said: “I got an illness and that took me out for a couple of weeks.

“The change of manager happened and that was difficult, not just for me but all the players. I think everyone knows how popular the old manager was.

“We have a new manager in now and we have to show more fight. At this time of year, that is all you can do.

“Let’s hope we can get that first goal on Saturday and turn our season around.

“There are still 30 points to play for. We still have a chance, which we probably don’t deserve if I am honest.

“As footballers, you want to be successful. Last season was brilliant, even though losing at Wembley was a difficult moment.

“But we had so many good times. We want to be in there again, fighting to get to Wembley.

“It can still happen, though that will fade quickly if we don’t start winning.

“The wins have to come soon. We have to fight our way out of this difficult spell.”
