MIKEY Wood revealed he got the seal of approval from the Bulls old boy contingent at Huddersfield before making the loan switch to Odsal.

The second row had no hesitation in grabbing the chance of a year at the club after seeking out the advice of the likes of Alex Mellor and Adam O’Brien.

Wood said: “I spoke to them about Bradford and they said how much I’d enjoy it. They said the fans were mint, there were really good facilities and the lads are really sound.

“I thought it was a great opportunity as the Bulls are a massive name and it’s game time I needed that I hadn’t been having at Huddersfield.”

Wood has already been bowled over by the volume of support which he witnessed at close quarters during the derby win at Keighley.

“I’ve never heard anything like it,” he added. “Even warming up on the sideline, they were all cheering.

“They never shut up and have got some good songs!

“This club are massively better than League One. The team and players we’ve got are better standard and hopefully we shouldn’t be in it for too long.”

With the postponed Challenge Cup trip to Hunslet rearranged for Easter Monday, John Kear will look to shuffle his resources for the busy programme ahead.

Wood is already learning from working under such a seasoned head coach and believes his own game has stepped up a gear since he arrived at the club before Christmas.

He said: “I feel I’m getting better. I had a slow, steady start in the friendlies but feel that I’m coming into my own a bit now.

“John’s very good. He’s a top bloke and knows exactly what he’s on about and that shows on the field.

“As soon as he came in, we started getting a bit more structure in the players and defence was more solid as well.

“It’s been a good start so far and I’m enjoying it massively.”

Meanwhile, the kick-off for Bulls' Good Friday clash at home to Oldham has been put back to 6pm.
