A BLAST from the past will greet Bradford Bulls in their Challenge Cup clash with Hunslet, as two of their former players welcome them to the John Charles Centre for Sport on Sunday.

Half-back Cain Southernwood played twice for the Bulls during their Super League days, back in 2010, while centre Duane Straugheir came through the club's academy system.

The pair both had excellent games on the opening weekend of the Betfred League One season as Hunslet beat Hemel Stags 28-14.

Straugheir scored a try, while Southernwood kicked four goals to earn the man of the match award.

Hunslet followed up that win by beating North Wales Crusaders 26-10 in their second league fixture, meaning that they currently sit third with maximum points.

They will hope to continue that form in the fourth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. They reached this stage after hammering local rivals Oulton Raiders 72-16 on February 25.

One player they will not be able to call upon on Sunday is former club captain George Flanagan. He played for Hunslet against the Stags on the opening weekend, but transferred to the Bulls days later.

He has hit the ground running at his new club, scoring twice from off the bench as Bradford obliterated rivals Keighley Cougars 54-6 last weekend.

New loan signing Josh Jordan-Roberts will hope to offset that loss. He has joined Hunslet on a month's loan from Leeds Rhinos, and head coach Gary Thornton was pleased to add the exciting youngster to his squad, saying:

“He’s looking forward to coming into our group and he has some versatility; he can play back-row or front-row.

“He is tough with good skills and he has a good attitude. He came to our game on Sunday and can’t wait to get stuck in and start playing.”
