STANNINGLEY Old Boys, who are second from bottom, reaped the benefit from playing a regular goalkeeper in their 3-1 Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division victory at Athletico.

The visitors went 2-0 ahead inside 20 minutes from a John Darke header and a Tom Stewart strike but had to rely on a magnificent save by Jamie Bull to keep their advantage before the interval.

The old boys made it 3-0 from a Jimmy Halliday penalty after a home defender punched the ball off the line but Athletico's leading scorer Mohammed Qasim pulled one back.

Sixth-placed Athletico then had a late penalty but it was wonderfully saved by Bull low to his left.

A Harvey Booth 25-yard special gave third-placed Drighlington the lead against Farsley Celtic Juniors in the 20th minute but the visitors equalised after 43 minutes when top scorer Danny Lyons stabbed home a Louis Surtees cross.

The hosts' 65th-minute clincher – they have now won eight out of nine – was brilliantly worked, with Ryan Rhodes despatching an exquisite Shane Sowden pass.

Drig then hit a post, the bar, the post and the post again all within moments, while Sam Thorpe also fluffed a one-on-one with the Celts keeper.

Eighth-placed Grangefield Old Boys christened their temporary home of Bramley Park with a 5-1 home victory over Morley Town, despite trailing to a ninth-minute goal by Ryan Hartley.

But debutant Tom Micklethwaite-Charles had levelled matters by the interval and completed his hat-trick in the second half, with Shane Gaunt and Dean Bell completing the tally, although Town thought that Gaunt was offside.

However, 16-year-old left winger Chris Barr was the old boys' man of the match as they leapfrogged their visitors in the table.

In the Championship Division, a weakened third-placed St Bede's won 2-0 at Leeds Independent, with man of the match Sam Marshall giving a colossal performance in midfield and Tawheed Ahmed being his usual sparky self up front.

The margin would have been greater, however, were it not for Leeds keeper Neil Howard, who was their man of the match.

Stand-in striker James Gilmartin put Bede's ahead with a cracking drive from the edge of the box and Gary Sutherland got their second.

Leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys trailed visitors Shire Academics 4-0 just before half-time but netted one before the break and three more in the second half to gain a point, with two of the goals coming from Conor Firth.

In Division One, third-placed Idle limped to a 3-2 home victory over much-improved Sky Blue at GOALS Bradford.

Aaron Irving levelled for Idle before Adam Medley put them in front. Sky Blue then equalised before Irving grabbed an 87th-minute winner from a corner.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves, who are up to sixth, coped well with a heavy pitch, beating visitors Garforth Rangers 5-1.

Skipper Ben Wilson, Stephen Wells and Bradley Shorrocks gave the Celts a 3-0 half-time lead, with Wells grabbing goals in the 64th and 80th minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Stand-outs for the winners were centre half Paul Noble, debutant Mark Brady and central midfielder Wilson.

Trinity Old Boys have now won four of their last six in Division Two with the latest being a 4-3 victory at depleted Fairbank United, who had five under-20s starting.

The visitors, who are sixth, led three times but needed an 85th-minute goal by Stevie Travers to clinch victory against their fifth-placed opponents.

Travers and Nick Baxter (2) had netted Trinity's earlier goals, with all of the replies coming from Shoaib Hussain, including a diving header from a cross by 17-year-old debutant Usayd Shafi.

Tyersal have dropped to second from bottom after a 1-0 home defeat against Woodkirk Valley – but only five points separate Tyersal from Fairbank United.

Man of the match for Tyersal, who conceded their goal in the 75th minute, was Tom Allendar.

Ben Howarth was man of the match for Morley Town Reserves, bagging a treble in their 5-3 home win against Sandal Wanderers, with Anthony Linley and Joe Cantrell also netting.

Morley Town Thirds won 4-3 at Colton Athletic Reserves, with Graham Stockdale (3) and Gav Manku on target.

Division Four leaders Prospect beat inexperienced visitors Gildersome Spurs Old Boys 3-0, with Joe Keen (2) and Stephen Wilkinson on the mark.
