WATERLOO winners Chris Mordue (Pudsey) and Wayne Ditchfield (Chorley) met for a second successive week in the final of the Spen Winter Sweep.

Ditchfield won the week 13 decider 21-12 and he backed it up by triumphing 21-18 in week 14 in what was the worst day's weather of the series so far, with rain falling incessantly.

Ditchfield opened up a 7-0 lead and for most of the game was in control – but plucky Mordue levelled at 17-17 before a bad lead opened the door for the Waterloo holder.

Mordue, who had earlier wins against Graham Law (21-19), Michael Sweeney (21-18) and Andy Thornton (21-12), faced Danny Teale (Guiseley) in the semi-finals.

As Teale had overcome Les Oddy (21-19), Brian Lee (21-18) and Neill Slattery (21-13) by almost identical scores, a close contest was expected and after the 12th end it was 8-8, with Teale having recovered from 7-2 down.

Mordue won the next five ends to lead 14-8 and it became 18-9 before Teale hauled himself back into the picture at 19-15.

The previous week's runner-up then got a single to stand on the brink, winning via another single after Teale had replied with two singles.

Ditchfield, who beat Mordue's son Josh 21-7 in the quarter-finals, faced points leader Mark Regan (Brighouse Sports) in the other semi-final and the latter went 5-0 up, Ditchfield countering with a run of five of his own.

After 17 ends, Ditchfield led 12-9, and that became 18-9 before he got over the line 21-11.
