NEW Bulls capture Gregg McNally will draw on past experience with Leigh to take a step back to go forwards again.

The Ireland international is happy to start at Odsal in League One after signing a two-year deal.

John Kear views the attacking full-back's arrival as another statement of intent for the club's first season in the third tier.

McNally has no qualms with dropping down – and wants to help the Bulls turn themselves round as he did previously with the Centurions when they hit dark times.

He said: "I was part of it at Leigh when they were going under. They managed to get a reprieve and came away and built from that.

"I know it can happen and hopefully we can build here at Bradford. You can tell that there's a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes already.

"The deal happened very quickly but certainly wasn't one I was going to turn away with the stature of this club.

"I see it as a good challenge. I've played in League One at Oldham and obviously with Leigh in the Championship and they are both tough.

"It's a start in League One and we want to build ourselves up as a club.

"Every week the other team will want to be the ones who can say 'we beat Bradford'. We've got to turn up for each other all the time.

"But you can feel the positivity coming out of the club and that was a big draw for me. Hopefully we can increase that this year."

Kear reckons 27-year-old McNally will add an "X factor" – and is set to throw him straight into action against Toronto Wolfpack in the Transatlantic Challenge match at Odsal on Friday.

"Gregg is an established elite Championship player – he's a Super League player in my eyes as well," said Kear.

"He's one of the most exciting attacking full backs you'll find and he'll certainly bring an X factor to the team.

"I've admired him from afar for a long time, when Batley used to play Leigh. We used to single him out for special treatment but never managed to get on top of him.

"But if you can't beat them, get them to join you and that's what we've done. He's a young man who wants to join a special journey – the rebirth of a great club."

The Bulls have set up a dual-registration agreement with the Wolfpack for next season. They will also be running a team in the reserve league.

Kear said: "I honestly believe with the current system, prior to reserves and dual-reg etc, you wouldn't have seen Jamie Peacock become an established international and have a stellar career.

"Jamie was over 20 when he really broke into the first team and just look what he achieved. We've got to provide that opportunity for players to play rugby league – and we are doing."
