TRINITY & All Saints College Old Boys have won their first game of the season in Division Two of the Yorkshire Amateur League – and they did it in style.

The cellar-dwellers beat third-from-bottom visitors Farnley Sports 6-0 in a well-refereed match and Trinity spokesman Pete Davies said: "This was a great win. We massively deserved it and it's been coming."

Goals came from Nick Baxter (3), Oli Nunwick, the experienced Steve Travers and Danny Morris.

Davies added: "Special mention to centre backs Tom McLeish and John McElhinney, who were superb, as were right back Ryan Marsh and goalkeeper James Kilroy."

Trinity are still bottom of the table but only two points behind Farnley Sports, while only five points separate sixth-placed Tyersal and Trinity in 11th position.

Seventh-placed Farsley Celtic Juniors described their performance as "shocking" as they drew 1-1 at home to ninth-placed Beeston Juniors in the Premier Division.

On a poor pitch, Beeston adapted better to the wintery conditions and took the lead when Carlton Binks' low 20-yard free-kick crept over the line at the far post.

Farsley gained a little momentum in the quarter-hour before half-time and levelled when Louis Surtees fired home a 25-yard free-kick – but they lost leading scorer Danny Lyons injured at half-time.

Celtic, despite dominating possession, never found their normal passing rhythm against battling opponents, whose forward Ryan Dawson was outstanding.

It needed a superb save by Jordan Wright to keep parity, with the Celtic keeper tipping the ball onto a post.

Next up for Celtic is their quarter-final in the Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield at home to Horsforth St Margaret's.

In the second round of the league's Terry Marflitt Trophy, Morley Town lost 4-0 at home to Leeds Medics & Dentists in front of a big crowd at Batley Sports & Tennis Centre, with Town putting over some testing crosses in the opening half-hour.

Medics join Drighlington, Grangefield Old Boys and the winners of Saturday's clash between Alwoodley and Medics Reserves in the semi-final draw on Monday, January 29.
