BRADFORD City Women will reward their promising youngsters with first team call-ups this Sunday.

The Bantams take on tenth-tier Thackley in the West Riding County Cup quarter-finals tomorrow, after dispatching visitors' league rivals Tyersal 5-0 in the last round.

Sophie Moulden, Lucy Preston and Amy Wood all featured in that victory, the latter even scoring on the day, and assistant manager Faye Boshell says the team this weekend is likely to be similar.

"We always like to use the cup as an opportunity for the youngsters to step up to the first team, so we can expect some call ups this weekend," she said.

"With the first team game called off last weekend, it meant us management had the rare treat of going to watch the reserves and they impressed.

"They showed great spirit to come back from 2-0 down to take the lead, and were unfortunate to concede with the last kick of the game.

"They played some great football and it really shows the hard work from Meg Lawson and Toni Butcher (reserves coaches) is paying off, especially with the youngsters really coming on now. It's very exciting for the future of the club."

However, City will not take the edge off tomorrow. Call-ups for the reserves will not be handed out lightly, particularly with a trophy there to retain.

Bradford have asserted themselves as the best in the county over the last few years with their success in this competition, and as it enters its final stages now, the focus is on retaining the title.

"The trophy is really important for the club," said Boshell.

"A lot has been said about the competition from other rival clubs, but we've won it three years in a row now to prove that we are the best team in the region. We won't be letting go of it without a fight."
