TONY McMahon wants to be put on the spot again with City’s next penalty.

But he’s not spilling the beans about whether he will get the chance should that happen against Southend tomorrow.

McMahon’s last attempt was saved by Remi Matthews in Plymouth’s smash-and-grab win at Valley Parade five weeks ago.

It was his first miss as City’s penalty taker but while he admits it has not put him off having another go, McMahon won’t reveal if he is keeping the responsibility. Top scorer Charlie Wyke has been tipped by some to take over.

McMahon said: “We’ll have to see (if I take the next one) but why not?

“I’m there and my record’s quite good so we’ll see what happens. I’ve got over it.

“A penalty’s a penalty – you pick your spot and go with it and the keeper just happened to make the save.

“I don’t really speak to goalies, our three are thick! But I know they do their homework.

“I’ve seen Doyler (Colin Doyle) watching an ipad on different players before games and they’ll know which way you tend to go.

“I picked the spot, went with it and he made the save – end of story.”

McMahon is more open about City’s chances of recording their eighth away win by inflicting a first home loss on the Shrimpers.

Southend are unbeaten at Roots Hall since Easter Monday, ironically the last time City failed to score on their league travels.

The right back added: “Southend are a big, physical team and we’ve got to be right on our game as well.

“We’ll prepare properly, do everything right and look to go down there and get another three points.

“But they’ll know it’s going to be tough for them. If we play well, we’re a match for anyone.

“We don’t fear them, they won’t be fearing us but hopefully we can come away with another win.

“We’re confident quietly going about our business. Not many teams have come away from Shrewsbury and Wigan with anything and we won both of those.

“The away form is good so far and we’ve got to keep that going to see where we end up.”
