Angling lines

TYERSAL AC The Eccleshill Angling Supplies Evening League at No-Go-Bye continues to throw up one or two surprises.

With most methods taking fish, it is up to the anglers to call on their experience to find what is working on the night.

In an eventful match, in which one angler lost six sections of a £2,000 pole on far-bank snags and local tackle dealer Dave lost more floats than he sells all week, it was not the more favoured pegs four and eight that produced the winner.

Steve Hawkins drawing unfancied peg three, decided on the if it swims, catch it' approach to take a winning weight of 28lb.

Result: 1 S.Hawkins 28lb, 2 R Keay 27lb 4oz (peg eight), 3 D Bauga 25lb 6oz (peg four), 4 S Hargreaves 22lb 10oz (peg 18).

The match on the House Lake at Poppleton was won by guest angler Roger Moursley with 44lb.

Result: 1 R Moursley 44lb, 2 K Priestley 39lb 6oz, 3 L Myers 34lb 12oz, 4 I Riley 29lb.

Next match is at Risby on the Tench Lake. Please note: Floating baits on the hook only, no feeding.

KEIGHLEY AC

Fishing in the River Aire in slack water is not too bad, although the level is still high. Work on the footpath at the rear of Magnet Joinery is continuing. The canal is well worth a visit now that the club has fishing from Keighley to Skipton. Anglers fishing for pike are to be careful if they lose tackle in trees as they can be dangerous to birds, especially if they have live bait attached. Carp to 25lb and large pike, roach and perch are being caught at Whitefields Reservoir, which is recommended for a visit. Members are asked to clear up before leaving and take home all their rubbish.

BINGLEY AC

The club are delighted to announce the capture of a Yorkshire record barbel of 14lb 15oz from our stretch of the River Wharfe at Wray Wood by vice-chairman Paul Kitching. The fish was witnessed by two other anglers and a photograph has been placed on the club's website (www.bingleyanglingclub.co.uk). The next match is at Sunnydale Reservoir on Sunday. Contact Tony Greenwood (07971- 428678) for bookings and further details.
