TYRELL Robinson admits his first Valley Parade goal topped his dramatic match-winner at Wigan.

Robinson was City’s hero once again with the decisive finish in their thrilling 4-3 victory over Rochdale.

Other results went their way as Stuart McCall’s men ended a run of four home games without a league win to move back into fourth – two points behind second-placed Shrewsbury.

Rochdale had recovered a two-goal deficit, former Bantams striker Steve Davies coming off the bench to equalise, before Robinson burst clear to clinch the points.

He said: “It felt even better than the Wigan goal because it was at home and I scored at the Kop end. It was just a great feeling.

“When the ball went through, I was thinking ‘it’s all me now’.

“You can start over-thinking things when you’ve time on your hands with the ball. You can get caught in two minds.

“They are harder than when you have chances in and around the box because then you just go for it.

“But the keeper came rushing out at an angle so he made me push it out on my stronger foot. That helped me in a way.

“He came out very fast so it made me kick myself up the backside and run even faster.

“I took it round him and was then thinking ‘please, just don’t miss’. I’d done the hardest bit.

“I would never have lived it down so to slide the ball in was a great feeling. I was over the moon.”

Robinson was substituted before the end after complaining of a tight hamstring but the youngster insisted it was just a precaution. He expects to be in contention for the weekend trip to Southend.

“This week I’ve been out with pains in the back of my knee that came from my hamstring,” he added.

“I didn’t want to risk being out again with the same thing but for longer.

“That’s why I wanted to come off and make sure I’m fit for next week.

“I was stretching my hamstring and it didn’t feel right. I couldn’t carry on because I didn’t want to make it worse by running again and then it goes.”

McCall was thrilled for Robinson, who he had pushed up into midfield from left back just before the goal.

The City boss said: “Tyrell’s playing with confidence and he’s got a lot going for him.

“Once he took it round the keeper, I was just thinking ‘please don’t bobble!’ I didn’t want another Ronnie Rosenthal moment but he took it really well.”

City had lost three in a row at Valley Parade in the league. But Saturday’s timely win coincided with slip-ups from play-off rivals Scunthorpe and Charlton.

Robinson said: “I saw we hadn’t won at home since the end of September so that was another reason to enjoy it.

“When we went 3-1 up, I thought we’d cruise through the game. But they did so well to come back to 3-3 so I was buzzing to score the winner.

“We’ve got two hard away games coming up now but our away form has been brilliant. Hopefully we can carry that on and pick up another six points.”
