LUKE Hendrie is more than happy to continue playing at left back if it gets him first-team action.

The on-loan Burnley right back has not looked out of place after being switched to his less natural side in City’s last two games.

Hendrie looks set to continue in that role at leaders Shrewsbury tomorrow, having been preferred to fellow loanee Tom Field.

And he said: “I’ve loved it. If the manager wanted me to play in net I would do.

“I’m one of those players who just wants to be out on the pitch and in whatever position I will give 100 per cent.

“Being picked at left back was a surprise to a lot of people but I know I can play there.

“I’ve played there coming through at Burnley and played there once at Kilmarnock.

“I’m okay on my left foot. I’m not two-footed but I just go out and play. It is no different if I was playing on the pitch on a Saturday or with my mates in the park on a Sunday.

“I just go out and enjoy it and just get on with it – try to stay relaxed and take it in my stride.”

Hendrie is open to the prospect of extending his stay at Valley Parade, with his loan from Turf Moor up in January.

He said: “It’s got to be right for both parties really but I’ve loved every minute of it and it has been a real pleasure playing for Bradford.”

Hendrie is in his second spell at City – or third if you count a pre-season under Phil Parkinson two years ago – having been part of the academy as a youngster before being snapped up by Manchester United, ironically when Stuart McCall was in his first stint as Bradford boss.

Having grown up as a City fan, the son of club legend John is fulfilling a childhood dream playing for the Bantams.

He said: “Every day is a privilege coming in here. Obviously I am a Bradford fan, so it is great for me personally being at a club I grew up supporting.

“All the lads and staff have been brilliant with me since I have come in and I have loved it.

“Being on loan you never know what will happen so I’m just trying to take the opportunity with both hands and make the most of it.”

City are aiming to bounce back tomorrow from a frustrating defeat at home to Scunthorpe. And having played in their win at Wigan last Saturday when he made the switch to left back, Hendrie knows they are capable of doing that.

He said: “There is enough belief in the dressing room that on our day we can go out and beat anyone. If we play well we are a match for anybody.”
