BOSS Stuart McCall admits his City side "shot themselves in the foot" as he was left to rue defensive errors in a 2-1 defeat to Scunthorpe.

The Bantams dominated possession and the shot count against the Iron but two bad goals condemned them to their fifth home League One loss.

City took the lead with a Paul Taylor rocket just before the break but switched off in the aftermath as Cameron Burgess scored from a set-piece to equalise straight away.

Then substitute keeper Rouven Sattelmaier let in a soft free-kick after the break, with McCall annoyed the set-piece was conceded.

The Bantams chief said: "We've shot ourselves in the foot and given two stupid goals away.

"We gave a silly free-kick for the first. I don't know if Tony (McMahon) slipped and then we didn't defend it properly.

"Even then Gilly (Alex Gilliead) should score before half-time, so we are coming in slightly disappointed because I felt we deserved to go in ahead.

"Then we gave another free-kick away in the middle of the park and we should do better from the free-kick for their second.

"We have no-one else to blame but ourselves because we have lost two goals."

Keeper Colin Doyle was injured during Scunthorpe's first goal and had to come off at the break. McCall admits he looks a doubt for the trip to Shrewsbury on Saturday.

The City manager said: "He got landed on. It's a bit early to say but the assessment doesn't look great – he could be struggling with ligament damage. We'll have to wait until the swelling goes down."

Despite the defeat, McCall was pleased with City's overall performance.

He said: "We deserved a lot more than that. I would have been disappointed with a point.

"After the first ten minutes we controlled the first half – we got on the ball and showed a lot of courage and played in good areas.

"The effort and desire was terrific. They are not an easy side play against but I felt we made enough opportunities to win the game.

"If we give the same performance again, we'll take that on Saturday. I was proud of the lads at Wigan and I was proud of them tonight in the way we kept going and kept at them.

"The keeper's made some good saves and they had a big height advantage on us."
