ST BEDE'S have booked a second-round tie against Farsley Celtic Juniors in the Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield.

In a classic game of two halfs, Alwoodley led Farsley 2-0 at half-time having had the wind at their backs, but the Celts scored four unanswered goals in the second half.

Two identical 40-yard free-kicks by Chad Morris levelled matters before a Danny Lyons brace completed the comeback.

Bede's were expecting a stiff challenge from East Ardsley Wanderers in another all-Yorkshire Amateur League tie, but the visitors, who are third in the Second Division, failed to meet expectations.

The hosts created chance after chance into the wind, but were only 1-0 up at half-time thanks to Adeeb Jawad.

The interval message to Bede's was to stop getting on the referee's back, and they didn't look back after Ian Horrocks' sumptuous dink over the onrushing keeper.

Jawad found the bottom corner of the net to make it 3-0, and another classy finish from Horrocks made it 4-0 before Jawad got his hat-trick.

Nick Scullion wrapped up the 6-0 victory with a smart finish from the edge of the box, with Jawad and Derry Myers sharing the man of the match award.

Grangefield Old Boys also progressed after a 4-1 home victory over second-tier Leeds Independent, who took the lead.

An excellent Jack Kitson free-kick restored parity, but it took a while for Grangefield's terrotorial advantage to pay dividends, Rhys O'Hare putting them ahead before Nick Smith despatched a disputed penalty.

Another contentious Smith penalty completed the scoring as Grangefield booked a tie at East Riding County League side Apollo.

There was also a battle between sides who are second in the Premier Division and second in the Championship, with the higher-rated Drighlington beating Mount St Mary's 8-1.

As in the Grangefield tie, the losers scored first but Drig were 3-1 in front by half-time, thanks to Sam Thorpe (2) and Tom Farrar.

It was one-way traffic in the second half, with goals from Thorpe, who thus completed his hat-trick, Brett Thompson, Harvey Booth, Josh Franklin and Chris Lee.

Drig are now at Beeston Juniors, but their neighbours Beeston St Anthony's needed a penalty shoot-out to get past Gildersome Spurs after the tie ended goalless following extra-time.

Former Saints keeper Danny King and Beeston stopper Tom Kaye were the main reasons that there were no goals, with King making two good saves in the opening 20 minutes when Beeston were dominant.

Gildersome tired in extra-time, and Saints missed a double chance before the shoot-out, when Kaye saved three penalties as Beeston went through 4-1.

There were also some league matches played, with Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves' mini run in Division One, which took them out of the relegation places, ending with a 3-2 defeat at Alwoodley Reserves, who won their first game of the season.

Despite drawing 1-1 with next-to-bottom Leeds Medics & Dentists, fourth-placed Idle are still the only unbeaten side in the section.

Idle's goal in a lacklustre performance came from Adam Medley, with Carl Dawson being their man of the match.

Fairbank United led twice but suffered their first defeat of the season in Division Two, losing 3-2 at home to Morley Town Reserves, who overtook the hosts to go second.

United, who are fourth with a game in hand, had Razziq Ali on target with a brace.

Tyersal beat visitors Sandal Wanderers 3-1 in a battle of young teams, with Ryan Pogson, Wayne Wright and Attaur Rehman netting for the home side, whose men of the match were Josh Hyde and keeper Dylan Silson.

It looks like there will be an absorbing promotion race in Division Four, and Prospect look like they will be part of it after a 6-2 victory at a youthful Calverley United Reserves.

Goals for Prospect came from Nathan Bailey (2), Liam Musgrave, Kingsley Rowe-Depass, Chris Bottomley and Jordan Farrell, with Mo Khan and Edward Hardaker replying.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys beat Shire Academics Thirds 2-1, with Lucas Scott and Jason Hardcastle on target in the first half for Spurs, who are now second, before Shire reduced the arrears with 15 minutes left.

Leaders Drighlington Reserves won 4-2 at pointless Thornesians Reserves, with Jamie Snelgrove, Oliver McDermott, Johnny Lakin and Kieran Boulton netting in the first half to extend Drig's winning streak to five matches.

St Bede's Reserves made it three victories and a draw in their last four matches with a 2-0 triumph at Huddersfield Amateur Reserves in Division Five, courtesy of Mick Dougan and Matt Spence.
