CITY and Oldham have been charged by the Football Association with “failing to control their players” during Tuesday’s game at Valley Parade.

The Bantams are set to appeal the accusation of misconduct, which followed a late flashpoint in the 1-1 draw.

Referee Chris Sarginson took over two minutes to dish out three bookings after the incident when players from both sides squared up in front of the dug-outs.

Former City director, now club ambassador, Roger Owen has put the club’s case before two previous FA hearings after incidents against Crawley and Millwall.

He suggested City are likely to head to Wembley again to argue they have done nothing wrong.

Owen told the T&A: “The club have not finally decided what action it will take but I feel it is highly likely that we will be entering a not guilty plea.

“I have looked at the video evidence submitted to us and it is difficult to see what sparked the confrontation so even more difficult to see how the FA have decided on a charge.

“The whole incident appears to be little more than ‘handbags’ which you can get in almost any game you watch.

“In the next couple of days I will be getting statements from various key people on our side of things and we will be speaking to Oldham who, I would think, are just as surprised as us at this development.”

City have until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge.
