AS JOB interviews go, Richie Wellens has set the standard.

Oldham have won all four games under his caretaker control since John Sheridan's departure.

It is the best start by any Latics boss for 110 years – and marks an incredible change of fortunes for a club earmarked by most for one of the relegation spots.

Manchester United legend and Oldham fan Paul Scholes remains heavily linked for the job but it is getting more difficult to look beyond Wellens.

Oldham are in the throws of a potential takeover from former agent Abdallah Lemsagam and chairman Simon Corney met the EFL last week to update them on progress.

Yet the fans have made it clear they want Wellens as permanent boss ahead of any 'sexy' name from outside.

And he strengthened his claims with a last-gasp win over Blackburn at the weekend, Dutchman Queeny Menig coming off the bench to score.

Wellens has made no secret of the fact he would love the opportunity but for now he remains focused on churning out the results.

"Two weeks ago we were bottom of the league and wondering where our next win was going to come from," he said ahead of tonight's trip to face the Bantams at Valley Parade.

"We don't want to get carried away or ahead of ourselves. We are going to lose games because that's the nature of this league.

"Can we win when we're not playing as well? We are not Barcelona."
