SILSDEN boss Danny Forrest sees no reason why his side cannot cause an upset in the FA Vase this weekend – and make it ten wins on the spin since the start of the season.

Nine out of nine victories mean the Cobbydalers take huge momentum into Saturday’s second qualifying round trip to West Auckland Town, who are among the front-runners in the Northern League top flight.

Forrest recognises his team are in for a tough game, especially with little known about their hosts in the north east.

"They're in a different region to us so it's hard to really get too much information on them,” he said.

“But I do know someone who has managed in and around those leagues so he's told me what he can.

“From what I know, they score a lot of goals and they are very strong going forward, that's something that we're aware of.

“Hopefully, we can frustrate them and take our chances at the other end, but we're under no illusions that it's going to be a difficult game.”

The Cobbydalers are sitting pretty at the top of the Hallmark Security League Division One, their latest win coming with a 5-2 triumph over Cheadle Town last week.

And Forrest says his side will focus on themselves going into Saturday's fixture, as they have all season so far.

“To be honest, if we manage ourselves and we go about our business like we have done, we'll have a chance against anyone around this level,” he said.

"The game is on their patch, which makes it a bit harder. They're proud of it and they won't want anyone, especially not us, going there and getting anything.

“But we've done well on our travels this year. We respect them, but we certainly don't fear them.”

West Auckland already have plenty of pedigree in the FA Vase, having reached the final in 2012 and 2014.

But Forrest said: "We've got some good attacking players. We're not going there and playing for a draw.

“I want to send the right message to the players that we are a good side and we can match anyone.

"They will be a strong team. Generally, the standard up there is good. There are teams every year from that area getting into the FA Vase final or doing well in national competitions.

“But, I can't be anything other than happy going into the game.

“If you look at what we've done recently, we couldn't be any more prepared.”
