BRIGHOUSE Town Under-21s travelled to Goole Under-21s in their latest pre-season friendly and won 5-0.

Town opened the scoring when Ethan Nixon controlled the ball with his chest and then unleashed a thunderbolt shot into the top corner of the net.

Jack Harrison increased the first-half lead with a header from 12 yards, and Tim Wallace made it 3-0 on the hour.

An own goal then put the match beyond Goole, and the scoring was completed when Callum Joyce's long through ball found James Parkinson, who raced clear to bag the fifth.

Brighouse begin their Flexible Football West Riding County FA Under-21 Floodlit League campaign with a match on Monday at home to Silsden Under-21s.

Thackley Under-21s hosted Halifax Town Under-18s in a pre-season friendly and were defeated 3-1.

With Phil Woollias away, Nathan Priestly was helped in the managers' dug-out by first-team assistant manager Andy Patterson.

Thackley's Sam Cable and Callum Brewster stopped Halifax from playing out from their defence, and the Dennyboys went ahead when Brewster fed Kingston David, who hit a first-time shot into the net.

Halifax equalised five minutes before the break, and the teams were evenly matched for the first ten minutes of the second period before Halifax took control, scoring twice to make the game safe.

Priestly said: “Overall, it was an entertaining game but credit Halifax who had some great young players, and they were also well organised."
