IAN Booth (Lower Hopton) and Craig Newton (Wakefield) were week three qualifiers, and Neil Slattery (Lower Hopton) and James Hanson (Pudsey) week four qualifiers, in the Brighouse Classic, sponsored by Damart.

Booth defeated Stuart Mort (Preston) 21-15 in the final qualifying game, while Newton edged out Kieren Smith (Crossgates) 21-19.

Hanson was in superb form throughout qualifying, with wins over Andrew Spragg (Chesterfield) 21-13, Chris Brown (Woodlands) 21-19 and Gerald Merry (Tarporley) 21-6, while Slattery progressed with a 21-14 victory over Mark Johnson (Barnsley).

Kennish defeated Robert Hopper (Brighouse) 21-19 in his last game, while Ellis defeated Darren Griffiths (Chadderton) 21-15.

* THE Spen Masters Invitational 16, sponsored by P&I Hopkins Butchers, takes place at Spen Victoria on Saturday, September 2 (5pm).

The sponsors are not only celebrating their 30th anniversary as a company but their eighth successive year as Spen Masters backers.
