FARSLEY Celtic came back from being a goal down to force a 1-1 draw at Ashton United in what was another positive result in their first midweek game since promotion to the Evo-Stik League Premier Division.

Following a goalless first half, Ashton broke the deadlock in the 68th minute through Max Cartwright, but nine minutes later Farsley’s talismanic striker James Walshaw netted the all-important equaliser.

Last season’s top scorer Walshaw had bagged a brace in the Celts’ 3-1 home victory over Coalville Town on the opening day of the Evo-Stik League.

Brighouse Town were put to the sword at newly-promoted South Shields in Division One.

New Town boss Vill Powell enjoyed a home win from their first game this term but his side went down 5-0 against the FA Vase holders.

The north-east outfit led 2-0 at the break after goals from Carl Finnigan and Barrie Smith, while Michael Richardson, Matt Pattison and Jamie Holmes were all on target in the second half.

Thackley were held to a goalless draw at home by AFC Mansfield in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division, but Liversedge romped to a 5-1 win at Clipstone.

Sedge striker Devonte Morton maintained his recent goal-a-game record as he netted for a third consecutive time.

Morton opened the scoring at Clipstone, and Brandon Kane and Steve Wales had added to that before Gareth Curtis pegged one back for the home side just before the interval.

A second from Wales and Tom Brook’s 63rd-minute strike completed the scoring.

Campion were also big winners at newcomers Swallownest.

James Bicknell’s men eased past their Sheffield-based hosts 4-0 after winning both halves 2-0.

Campion took the lead when Alex Nightingale put through his own net midway through the first half, and Tom Robinson added a second before the half-hour.

Robinson went on to bag a brace with a second-half strike before Antony Brown wrapped it up.

Silsden won 3-1 at AFC Blackpool in Hallmark Security League Division One, with player-manager Danny Forrest opening the scoring.

The former Bantams, Halifax Town and Guiseley striker netted the only goal of the first half just before the break.

The west-coast side levelled through Ben Duffield, but late goals from Niall Sultan and Aaron Davis, inside two minutes, meant that the Cobbydalers brought three points home with them.

Tonight Albion Sports and Eccleshill United are both at home, with Albion looking to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season as they host Maltby Main in the NCE Premier.

The Eagles are yet to taste victory after a draw and a defeat in Division One and welcome Glasshoughton Welfare, who opened their season with a win at Selby Town but lost 3-1 at home against Worsbrough Bridge Athletic at the weekend.
