CITY kick off a packed week with tonight's friendly at Guiseley after Stuart McCall admitted: "We need more games."

McCall will mix and match his side between the Nethermoor outing and Eccleshill tomorrow to give the whole squad pitch-time.

The Bantams boss is also planning to squeeze in another fixture behind closed doors ahead of the Valley Parade clash with Sunderland at the weekend.

McCall wants his players to have more opportunities to get minutes under their belt before the season opens against Blackpool on August 5.

He said: "We're hopefully going to have a game on Friday as well, although that's not been confirmed yet. So we're planning to play Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday this week.

"We've got the two big games coming up at Valley Parade as well and I want to get everyone involved in them.

"When I think back, we always used to have only six pre-season games and I didn't think I was really right until I was in my fourth full game.

"We're not ready to give people full games if we only had everyone at Guiseley, maybe they'd get 60.

"They need to get 75 minutes or maybe a full game now, maybe if we can get that at Eccleshill. The pitch is certainly decent.

"At the moment, apart from Gordon Greer, we haven't got any trialists in. It's different compared with this time last year.

"Touch wood, we haven't got any injuries. We've that many bodies, I don't want to be giving people 60 minutes and having to bring them off when they really should be getting maybe three full games under their belt. But to do that, we need to be playing more games."

McCall has noticed the difference on the training ground since the squad spent four days working in Austria. He felt that attitude was there in the performance against TV Echterdingen.

He said: "I said to them on Saturday that they'd worked hard all week for games like that. Regardless of the grass being a bit long or the opponents, just go out and push yourselves.

"We don't get carried away but the week in Austria was good and it was nice to see so many fans coming over at the weekend.

"Managers will always tell you that their group is gelling when you go away but you can see that. The improvement in quality has been good.

"We started a little bit sloppy with the first 15 minutes of the first training session. We had a little word about it and since then they've been very good."
