GEOFF Toovey was left counting the cost of his Bulls side's 42-10 defeat to Hull KR after Ashley Gibson and Ethan Ryan were forced off through injury.

Gibson lasted just five minutes before succumbing to a torn bicep while Ryan also departed during the first half with a suspected fractured cheekbone.

The homegrown winger clashed heads with former Bulls full back Kieren Moss and both men left the field and did not return in a game which saw Odsal old boy Danny Addy score a hat-trick.

Toovey, who watched Cory Aston and Damian Sironen make impressive debuts yesterday, is hoping new signing Willie Tonga could feature in next Sunday's trip to Batley.

Bradford head coach Toovey said: "It looks like Ryan has got a broken jaw and Gibson has a torn bicep.

"If Ethan's jaw is broken, it looks like he will be out for between six to eight weeks at least – and I'm not sure about Gibson or how he sustained the injury. We had to reshuffle the backline and it took its toll in the end.

"Overall it was much better from us and a more consistent effort but at the end of the day we just ran out of juice.

"I don't think the scoreline reflected the game but it was a difficult day because we could have lost two players for potentially the rest of the year."

Australian forward Sironen set up an early try for Liam Kirk and Aston also touched down, with Rovers leading only 18-10 at the break.

But Bradford did not score a point in the second half as Championship leaders Hull KR underlined their class.

Toovey, who felt Rovers prop Lee Jewitt had clearly headbutted James Bentley with no punishment, said: "I thought Sironen was fantastic, considering he only got off the plane five days ago.

"He was solid in defence and produced a couple of nice offloads. He will add a bit to the team, for sure.

"I said to the players afterwards that I was proud of the performance and we are now aiming to win all the remaining 18 points that are up for grabs."

On Tonga's possible debut, the Bulls boss added: "I believe we are waiting for some paperwork to be finalised and hopefully he will be available this week."

Addy took centre stage on a day when six former Bradford players featured against their former club.

Rovers boss Tim Sheens said: "A lot of our players knew more about Bradford than we did.

"Danny went well and, while he's been playing five-eighth, he's more of a natural back-rower. He'll be happy about today, I think, but I still think his best position is second row or loose forward."
