CITY are looking to boost the squad with a couple of fresh faces in time for their pre-season return.

Head of recruitment Greg Abbott today revealed they were closing in on deals to add to the two summer signings Adam Chicksen and Paul Taylor.

Abbott also confirmed that Wimbledon midfielder Jake Reeves is one name under discussion but would not comment on national reports of a £150,000 bid.

Abbott said: “Jake’s on the list of players we are looking at. We’ve been alerted that he possibly is available but there would be a fee.”

It is understood that Reeves, who could potentially fill the hole left by Josh Cullen’s return to West Ham, has attracted plenty of competition after an impressive season for the Dons.

Abbott is fairly optimistic of some movement on the transfer front as the Bantams prepare to kick off their pre-season regime on Thursday.

He added: “It’s difficult for me to say there’s definitely a couple coming in because it almost looks like you are telling the fans lies if it doesn’t happen.

“I pride myself on telling the truth. We are close but whether they happen overnight, there are always things that can stop that.

“We’re trying desperately hard to make one or two happen this week.

“We want to give the manager the best possible squad. The owners are very supportive of that.”

Hamilton’s goal-scoring midfielder Ali Crawford  is another player who has been under consideration, although Abbott believes he will be on the radar of all the leading sides in League One.

He said: “We must have 150 names we’ve talked about. We don’t just have one for each position.

“We’re looking at some good players. They are all on a long list and we sit round as a team and discuss the different options.”

Manchester United right back Joe Riley remains a potential loan target but has indicated that he may opt to stay at Old Trafford and fight for a chance.

“Joe fits a lot of criteria of this club as a younger player,” said Abbott.

“But he’s got a big decision to make whether he stays at Man United.

“He’s seen Josh Harrop play, although he’s moved on now, and one or two other young players get in the team. Their dream is to play for Man United.

“But he is among a number of right backs at that age that we’ve looked at.”
