NEW Brighouse Town manager Vill Powell feels that he is fortunate to land a job with a club on the up, and he is hoping to make the most of the opportunity.

With Paul Quinn in charge, Town missed out on the play-offs in Division One North of the Evo-Stik League on the last day of last season.

Quinn resigned days later but was re-united with his squad at the club’s presentation evening, making speeches and handing out awards.

Powell said: “It is nice when you come into a club which is already in a healthy situation, but I’ve found out that even that brings problems.

“There has been a lot of interest in our players after the club finished just outside the play-off places last year, so because the club is healthy, it makes it difficult to hold onto the squad.”

Powell was appointed as Quinn’s successor at the end of last month but has settled into his new role quickly.

He has also brought his own assistant manager, after former No 2 Lee Ashworth decided to follow Quinn as the duo look for a fresh challenge.

Former Huddersfield Town defender Nat Brown comes in as assistant manager, while Dave Thompson, who was on the coaching staff at the Dual Seal Stadium last season, remains, with Leon Wainman making up the new quartet.

Powell said: “I’ve spoken to all the players and asked them to stay with us, which some have already confirmed.

"One or two have left but we’ve had some positive feedback off the majority of them.

“We’ve already got agreements with some but others are looking at their options as they have had a few approaches.

"A couple of clubs from higher divisions have shown an interest in players.

“At this level, the players are free agents in the close season so you never know what’s going to happen. That’s non-league football, and it will always be that way.”
