BRADFORD-based Prospect AFC are celebrating being awarded a £1500 Grow the Game grant from the Football Foundation.

It will help them set up a new team in the Yorkshire Amateur League next season and provide additional training equipment for their existing teams.

In addition, Prospect will be able to put their current managers on a Level One FA Coaching Course.

Prospect AFC's club treasurer Jake Berry said: “It’s great that the Football Foundation are supporting our newly-formed Saturday team in the Yorkshire Amateur League.

"We’ve had a successful club for 15 years and to know that we’ve got this continued support is great.

"It definitely helps grow grass-roots football in local communities.”

The grant was welcomed by England manager and Football Foundation ambassador Gareth Southgate, who said: “I am so pleased that Prospect AFC has secured this Grow the Game grant.

"The club has worked very hard with the West Riding County FA and the Football Foundation to get more local people playing football so that they can enjoy the many physical and mental benefits that come with playing regular sport.

“Grow the Game is mainly funded by the FA and delivered by the Football Foundation.

"This is money that is flowing from the very top of the game down to the lowest levels to help clubs at the grass-roots to bear the cost of starting up a new team, whether it be for a new kit, pitch hire or sending volunteers on FA accredited coaching courses.”

Grow the Game is a £2.5m programme funded by the FA and the Football Foundation.

It awards grants to grass-roots football clubs that wish to create new teams, especially among under-represented groups.
