THE odds on Burley winning their first Aire-Wharfe League championship since 2010 will become much clearer tomorrow as they entertain Division One leaders Beckwithshaw.

The fifth place achieved in the last two seasons is the lowest that Burley have been since they last lifted the trophy and they again signalled they would be in contention with an impressive opening-day victory over reigning champions Otley.

Since then they have slipped up only once, against Pool, and are currently second in the table, 12 points adrift of Beckwithshaw.

The leaders are unbeaten so far and have looked almost unstoppable – but Burley have strength in depth and, with the all-round ability of players like Nick Brook and player-coach Jason Wright, they will undoubtedly provide Beckwithshaw's toughest test so far.

Third-placed Guiseley were Beckwithshaw's latest victims and they face another tricky match with the visit of Bilton, who are only two points behind them and have a strong bowling line-up led by South African Kiel von Vollenhoven.

The league's leading batsman so far is David Paynter of Pool and he can add to his 369 runs at Collingham, who have clawed their way out of the bottom two with two consecutive wins.

Rawdon can climb further away from the danger zone at Colton – who will still be reeling from being skittled for 63 by Ilkley, whose bowlers might find the going much tougher at Otley.

After several years of non-stop triumph, Horsforth appear to have hit the buffers and they simply can't afford to be defeated by North Leeds, the only side without a win in the league and the only side below them in the table.

Since being re-elected ten years ago, Ben Rhydding have been promoted twice and relegated once. Their roller-coaster looks to be back on the up this season as they sit just three points behind Division Two leaders Adel.

Tomorrow they face third-placed Follifoot – but with import Shane Wineti in impressive form with the bat, Alex Miller's side will start as favourites.

Tong Park Esholt, who got back to winning ways last week against Skipton, travel to Kirkstall, a side that have also struggled for consistency this season, while the visit of Leeds Modernians to Steeton should produce a tight and interesting encounter.

Thackley – who won the championship more recently than Burley – are still well adrift at the bottom but they should be lifted by last week's first victory and will hope to build on that at Skipton.

Just above them in the table, Addingham travel to Calverley, who are themselves in and out of form, while Hall Park will need a vast improvement if they are to take anything off Adel.

Having taken over at the top of the Division Three table, Olicanian should be confident as they visit St Chads Broomfield but will be aware that the league new boys knocked Tong Park Esholt out of the cup last week.

Saltaire should get their promotion challenge back on course against a New Rover side that has so far been a shadow of its normal self.

Green Lane entertain a Bardsey outfit that looks as though it will be challenging for the top spot after winter squad strengthening.

Menston welcome Bolton Villas, with both sides needing to kick-start their season after sitting out last weekend's fixtures.
