BRADFORD City's visit to Wembley had an effect on sides in the south of the Mewies Craven League area with two concessions and at least two sides, Denholme II and Oakworth II, fielding veterans and parents to make up the numbers.

Wet weather saw much of the programme called off anyway, though some teams waited around for it to improve and were rewarded with some cricket.

None of the top five in Division One beat the rain and only two matches took place.

At Denholme, visitors Riddlesden batted first and were dismissed for 95 in 36.3 overs with Mick Cryer (41) top scoring as Ryan Judson (4-35) and Toby Priestley (3-8) did most of the damage.

Priestley then smashed 72no in 38 balls (including eight fours and four sixes) to lead the home side to victory by eight wickets in 11.4 overs.

Oakworth and Haworth Road’s patience paid dividends when they figured in a 25-over per side game.

The Cure Hill hosts battled to 70 all out as Muhammad Zahid claimed 4-18. The Baildon Bottom visitors were made to fight all the way for their three-wicket victory as Ben Howell claimed 3-29.

It was a similar story in Division Two as only 50 per cent of matches had any play.

In a 31 overs per side game at Ingrow, Chris Brooker-Carey (56) helped Foulridge to 153 as Aaron Pearce took 3-42. The Hainworth side closed on 130-8 with Daniel Scott making 35 and Shahbaz Munir taking 3-17.

At Park Field, Long Lee managed 141-7 in their 25 overs with Craig Pullen making 58. The Glusburn reply was impressive as Matthew Lloyd (33) and Neil Freeman (54no) put on 81 for the first wicket.

The latter was joined by skipper Steve Brown (41no) as they raced to a nine-wicket victory.

At the Coliseum, Cowling amassed an impressive 159-5 in their allotted 25 overs with Mike Dudley (53) and Wassim Hussain (50) leading the way. Visitors Ingrow St John’s II were restricted by some tight bowling to 100-7 with Amjid Hussain claiming 3-37.

Only one game was played to a finish in Division Three, with Embsay II making 229-7 thanks to Rob Bateman (68) and Dominic Kay (62) leading the way as Michel Baines (4-55) battled away with the ball.

Sixteen-year-old Ben Hemsley (56no) then carried his bat as Bingley Congs II replied with 122-9 with Stephen Speak taking 3-33.

Akeel Rashid (107no) made a century in vain for Riddlesden II at home to Thornton, hitting 11 fours and eight sixes.

John Pinkerton also weighed in with 42no as the hosts reached 194-2 off 39 overs before Thornton's reply was cut short by the rain at 77-3.

In Division 4A/4B, Bingley Congs III – playing at Saltaire due to their Haworth West End base being unavailable – posted 118-6 in a 35-over per side game with Denholme II.

Graeme Love (34) top-scored as Michael Dennison (3-18) was the best bowler. The latter then made 76no and Neil Spencer 29 to help the visitors to a fine three-wicket win.

At the Airedale Oval, Tom Spensley (4-23) and Tom Storr (42no) were instrumental in Gargrave II beating Airedale II by eight wickets.

Damian Gupta (56) was the main stay of Chatburn’s 159-5 from 27 overs in the Ribble Valley. Visitors Skipton CI fell 14 runs short of their target as Henry Rumboll (4-48) and Harry Parker (3-41) performed well with the ball.

In a 32 overs per side game, Glusburn II posted 148-6 with Noman Hassan (71) leading the way assisted by Alan Coney (41). Home side Cononley II were restricted to 125-6 with Paul Hogg making 39 as Josh Banks claimed 3-27.

Oakworth III, with a makeshift side, scored a creditable 166-8 led by Andrew Stephens (75) and Iestyn Jones (35) as Simon Webster (4-32) bowled well. Long Lee III were struggling before Andy Mears (40no) and Neil Kennedy (7no) got them home by one wicket. Earlier, Frazer Atkinson made 30 as Henry Booth took 3-25.

Ingrow II conceded to Foulridge II as did Crossflatts II to Haworth II.
