WOODLANDS made short work of Mirfield Parish Cavaliers to reach the quarter-finals of the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup.

Batting first at Albert Terrace, none of Woodlands' first five batsmen failed as they racked up 301-8, with opener Sam Frankland (70) sharing stands of 67 with skipper Tim Jackson (38) and 76 alongside wicketkeeper Greg Finn (24).

Liam Collins, whose 60 came off only 48 balls, Alex Atkinson (35) and Scott Richardson (21 not out off nine balls) continued the momentum.

The Cavaliers were always under the cosh when they batted, being dismissed for 89, with Kez Ahmed (5-17) and Mark Lawson (3-36) the main beneficiaries.

Equally emphatic against another Mirfield side were Hanging Heaton, who beat Moorlands by eight wickets.

From 94-6, Moorlands did well to reach 192 as Muhammed Rameez took 3-30 – but it made little difference as that target was passed in 29 overs, with Gary Fellows hitting 97, Richard Foster 35 not out and Nick Connolly 31.

Holders New Farnley were almost as emphatic, winning by six wickets after fellow Bradford League side Scholes had made 225.

Townville also took the easy route into the last eight, defeating Crossbank Meths by nine wickets after dismissing them for 125, while Wrenthorpe were involved in a similar match to New Farnley at Treeton, passing their 240 target to win by six wickets with 6.3 overs to spare.

Birstall were under the cosh at Kirkburton, losing by 138 runs, but Morley made a good fist of things at home to Whitley Hall, almost defending their score of 193 in losing by two wickets in the 42nd over.

Hoylandswaine, involved in that first-round run feast against East Bierley, complete the quarter-final line-up after a four-wicket victory at Methley.
