BOWLERS were most definitely on top in Division One of the Bradford & District Evening League.

Salem Athletic top-scored with 129-6 thanks to 48 from K Uzair, while Banaras Hussain (3-29) and Amir Humza Hussain (3-40) did the damage for the home side. Greenfields reached 109-6 in reply.

Thornton were the second-highest scorers with 124-2 against the Adil Rashid Cricket Academy at East Bierley, with Ross Soames retiring on 50. Mark Clayton's 4-13 then helped Thornton bowl out the Academy for 81.

Ciroc went joint-top with Salem Athletic thanks to a 29-run victory at Denholme.

Batting first, Ciroc recovered from 8-3 to eventually post 104-6, with Mushy Shah top scoring on 33 supported by Nadim Hussain (27). Matthew Wear continued his good form with 3-15 for Denholme.

Travis Nightingale (32) was the only Denholme batsman able to come to terms with the conditions and Ciroc's bowlers as Aezaz Dar took 4-22 (including a hat-trick) and Tuseif Arshad 3-14.

Shelf won a close encounter at Mayfield by just two runs. Shelf must have thought their 94 all out was not going to be enough as Danish Hussain top-scored with 33. Wasim Raza (3-7) and Ahsan Alishan (3-15) were the pick of the Mayfield bowlers.

Mayfield looked set for victory at 86-2 but a hat-trick from Absar Hussain (3-4) turned the tide, with Mayfield finishing on 92-4 despite the earlier efforts of Mohammed Faisel (31).

In Division Two, new boys Crossflatts were one of two teams to win at home this week as they comfortably surpassed Cross Roads & Daisy Hill's 86 all out (Mahesh Patel 40no, Joey Lynch 4-3).

They did so without losing a wicket and with four overs to spare thanks to Imran Zaman (41no) and Freddie Maddocks (38no).

The other home team to win were John Breare, who bounced back from a ten-wicket defeat with a comprehensive victory over the league's other new boys Raja's.

Quality bowling and fielding restricted Raja's to 77-8 (Tom Simpson 3-20), who still batted their full allocation of 16 overs.

Raja's never gave up but a fine 43 not out by Robbie Salerni saw John Breare home with seven wickets and two overs to spare.

Great Horton Park Chapel made an impressive 162-2 at Bradshaw with fine knocks from Chris Dennison (47), Chris Brown (40no) and Darren Wilson (37).

Yet Bradshaw were not overawed by facing such a big total and finished just 14 runs short on 148-3, with James Thompson retiring on 54.

Hepworth & Idle were the day's top scorers, which saw them move joint-top of the table with Crossflatts & Great Horton Park Chapel.

They smashed 174-5 against Cambing, with Gary Sagar (50no), Jamie Robson (48) and Kevin McDermott (34) doing the damage.

In reply, Cambing made a spirited 115-9 thanks to a main contribution from Jamil Quereshi (49), while Jonathan Thompson took 3-21.
