NICK Brook led the way as Burley put down a marker for the new Aire-Wharfe League season with a nine-wicket Division One win over last season's runners-up Otley.

Brook took 6-38 and with Jason Wright (3-42) dismissed the home side for 143. Otley only managed that thanks to Nathan Goldthorp, who hit 59 batting at seven as his side recovered from losing five wickets for four runs and stumbled to 98-8.

Brook then struck an unbeaten 80 and put on 140 with Dan Revis (53) to clinch the victory.

Rawdon also needed to recover from the early loss of wickets at Pool but Jake Hodges (68), Andrew Doidge (37) and Jonathan Doidge (28) helped them to 207-9, with David Amos picking up 5-32.

David Paynter (40) and Patrick Dixon (46) gave Pool a good platform but Bradley Reeve (5-41) and Andrew Doidge (3-47) managed to restrict them to 202-9 at the close.

Bailey Worcester (36no) top-scored in Horsforth's 182 and, despite the efforts of Jibrael Malik (69), that proved enough to beat Ilkley by 16 runs.

Damon Reeve (4-9) had North Leeds on the back foot and with skipper Stewart Smith hitting 46, Guiseley passed the 132 target with five wickets in hand.

Champions Beckwithshaw made a strong start to the defence of their title, beating Collingham by 169 runs, while Bilton seem to have signed a star in South African Kiel van Vollenhoven, whose 71 and 6-55 proved the key to their narrow win over Colton.

Promoted Tong Park Esholt emphatically announced their arrival in Division Two with a crushing defeat of Thackley, Mick Scott (3-2) and Mahir Ali (4-23) skittling the visitors for 51 to set up an eight-wicket win.

Aussie Robbie Salerni (45) and Chris Brown (44) helped promoted Hall Park to a respectable 246 at Kirkstall but last season's top-flight relegation outfit just edged home by three wickets thanks to a century from Stephen Wilkinson.

Ben Holderness starred as Skipton overcame Ben Rhydding by six wickets, following up a 3-43 spell with a knock of 67. Adam Hardwick weighed in with 49 as Skipton passed the visitors' 170 total.

Having made some big signings, Follifoot are tipped for promotion this season – and they seemed on track when Alex Fox (6-54) restricted Calverley to 189, with Dan Hall making 61. But the home side also had an ace up their sleeve and Jonathan Hudson's 6-61 spell saw the visitors bowled out for 135.

Adel set a 230-7 target and, despite the efforts of Andrew Foulds (62), James Emmott (40) and No 9 Paul Hardwick (33), Steeton came up 24 runs short of victory.

Ted Haggas scored a half-century but struggled to find support as Addingham were dismissed for 130 at Leeds Modernians. Haggas (3-49) and Ricky Palacio (3-20) came close to turning the match around but the home side edged over the line with one wicket in hand.

Saltaire got off to a winning start on their Division Three debut at Menston. Phil Raikes (65) top-scored in the home side's 157 total – but with Chris Langley, signed this season from Pateley Bridge, hitting 41, Saltaire clinched victory by one wicket.

If Harden thought life in a lower division would be easier, they were soon disabused when they were tumbled out for 59 by Olicanian as Ed Broadley (3-18), Sajeed Ijaz (3-13) and Kervon Christmas (3-21) did the damage.

Olicanian did not find batting much easier but Chris Meehan (32no) clinched the six-wicket win.

Alwoodley's rebuilding appears to have paid dividends. They ran up 241-7 against Green Lane, who were then dismissed for 120. The main contributions came from tail-enders Neil Britton (21) and Chris Spivey (26).

St Chad's Broomfield enjoyed a successful league debut, beating New Rover by 93 runs.
