DAVID Wagner stressed that Huddersfield still have their destiny in their own hands after a 4-1 home defeat against Championship play-off rivals Fulham.

The Cottagers completed a league double over the Yorkshire club following a 5-0 drubbing at Craven Cottage in October.

All the goals came in the first half as Fulham stormed to a fourth straight win, sending a promotion warning to their rivals.

Three points would have sealed a play-off place for Town but coach Wagner said: "It's still in our own hands and we have three games left.

"We have shown unbelievable consistency all season and we have been in the top six virtually the whole season. In my opinion, we have been the most consistent team in this division so far."

Town went ahead through Chris Lowe's fourth-minute penalty but Scott Malone equalised before Tom Cairney edged the visitors ahead from the spot.

Two goals from Stefan Johansen then made it 4-1 at the break and there was no way back for Town.

Individual mistakes cost the home side and Wagner said: "It is difficult to win football matches when you concede what are almost three half own goals.

"Fulham are a great side and deserved their win but we played a big part with the errors we made.

"Defeat hurts, of course, but I have been able to trust the players who made mistakes over the whole season and we move on.

"The start we made probably cost us as we lost focus and concentration and against a team like Fulham, you need to focus. To move on, you have to know why you lost and we do know why we lost."

Fulham head coach Slavisa Jokanovic has seen his side hit form at the right time with 13 goals in four matches and said: "We are in a good mental moment and we believe we can play good football and compete very well.

"I am very happy at how we are at this time. We are solid and this is important for us. To win 4-1 is a great result but perhaps I miss the clean sheet.

"The team showed great character and confidence and we were very brave. We scored four goals but it could have been more. Our standards are improving and this is exactly what we have to do."

Jokanovic refused to analyse the play-offs and said: "I am not looking at the table, I am only thinking about the next game. Now we need to rest and concentrate on the regular part of this competition."
