ROMAIN Vincelot is urging City not to change their mind-set as the League One promotion race heads towards its climax.

The Bantams will ensure their play-off place with a positive result against Wimbledon this afternoon – or from a slip-up by either Millwall or Southend.

With their unbeaten league home season on the line, Vincelot wants to clinch it properly at Valley Parade.

The skipper believes City's best chance of play-off progress rests on carrying on as they have done throughout the season.

Stuart McCall's side have been a fixture in the top five since mid-August, so Vincelot sees no need to start altering their approach just because the stakes are rising.

He said: "Wimbledon is just another game. Approach it as we have done with all the rest and we'll have a good chance to get the result we need for the play-offs.

"When you approach the big event, you have to remind yourself why you are here. So what do you have to do? The same thing.

"That's very important for every game now and when we hopefully get into the play-offs. Keep doing what you have been doing because this is why you are at this point. It's worked this far.

"Then when you arrive in the play-offs, just do the same thing, train the same and in the games. The atmosphere lifts the thing naturally but you don't want to perform any different."

Nerves are understandably showing as the season reaches crunch point. Second-placed Bolton are stumbling over the line with only one goal in their last five games and Southend have lost three out of four.

City were well beaten at champions Sheffield United but that followed a run of three wins on the bounce and Vincelot sees no reason for that Bramall Lane setback to upset the momentum.

The Frenchman said: "Of course we were disappointed about Monday – but our form has been good. We have learned to never be too low with failure, in the same way you cannot get too high with success.

"It's a very long season and there are going to be times when teams fail to hit form. The pressure of the results when the play-offs are near can play on some minds – but we have so much to look forward to."

Vincelot is City's only League One ever-present and has not missed a single minute at Valley Parade.

He appreciates the enormity of possibly completing a full season without a home defeat – but is more focused on nailing down the team's play-off place.

Vincelot said: "It's a very good stat and really one for the pride. We are one game away from this very good record and hopefully we can do it because that would mean we are in the play-offs.

"For sure, playing at home is one of the strengths of this club, with the fans and the stadium. We do well to play on that.

"Hopefully we carry on like we have done for the last game at home for the domestic season – and then another one in the play-offs.

"It's important for us to focus and finish well. It's just another game but we know what it means.

"We want to make sure we secure what has been a good season now and not take any risks going into the final week.

"It would be a shame not to finish well at home with the season we've had. We're all aware of that and we will be ready for it."
