THREE Titus Salt School pupils are heading to next month's British Schools' Gymnastics Championships at Stoke-on-Trent after winning medals in tumbling events at the Yorkshire Schools' Championships.
Year Ten student Catherine Duffy won the under-19 category, while Paige Norman and Sophie Watmuff, both from Year Eight, took silver and bronze respectively in the under-14 section.
Catherine was also on for a medal with Year Seven student Megan Argent in the under-19 pairs floor routine after a testing series of balances but made an error in their last balance, still finishing fourth.
Paige and Sophie, who like Catherine and Sophie are members of Saltaire Gym Club, were an excellent fifth out of 13 in the under-14 floor pairs routine.
Titus Salt School's head of PE Jill Pettifor said: “All four girls are a great example of how hard work leads to excellence.
"We are extremely proud of their achievements in gymnastics. They are an asset to our school and show great dedication and commitment in everything they do.”
TSS students spring into action at local competition
Titus Salt School students Megan Argent, Year 7, Paige Norman and Sophie Watmuff, Year 8 and Catherine Duffy, Year 10, who all attend Saltaire Gym Club, recently, competed in the Yorkshire Schools Gymnastics Competition.
The competition was tough in the U14’s pairs floor routine where Paige and Sophie came 5th out of 13, a really good result. Catherine paired up with Megan in the U19’s category, they had to complete a testing routine of balances; unfortunately they dropped a balance in the final minute however still gained and amazing 4th place!
In the U14’s tumbling events Paige came 2nd, Sophie 3rd and Catherine took 1st place in the U19’s. Paige, Sophie and Catherine will travel to Stoke on Trent to represent TSS at the British Schools finals in May.
