YORKSHIRE have been handed a significant boost with the news that overseas batsman Peter Handscomb has not been selected in Australia's 15-man Champions Trophy squad.
The tournament takes place between June 1-18 in England and Yorkshire were fearful they would miss their overseas recruit for Championship matches against Lancashire and Somerset, as well as the quarter- and semi-finals of the Royal London Cup one-day competition should they progress.
Now that does not look like being the case, although Australia have not selected a back-up wicketkeeper in their squad and Handscomb, given he is England-based, would be the obvious candidate should Matthew Wade sustain an injury.
Yorkshire squad (v Hampshire, starting tomorrow): Ballance (capt), Bairstow (wkt), Bresnan, Coad, Fisher, Handscomb, Lees, Lyth, Patterson, Rafiq, Rashid, Root, Willey.
