CROSSGATES thrashed newly-promoted Cononley 26-4 in the opening round of fixtures in the Naylor Premier League, with Kieran Smith 21-6, Gareth Lally 21-8 and Jon Wood 21-9 being the pick of nine home winners.

Reigning champions Pudsey A suffered a 16-14 defeat at Whitkirk, with Paul Tobin 21-5 and Kristian Walder 21-7 starring for the hosts.

Danny Fountain, with a great 21-9, helped Brighouse Sports A to an 18-12 home win over Asa Briggs A, who would have been happy with four away winners and to leave Brighouse with a respectable 12 points.

Clayton B made it back-to-back home wins in the Godwin League after another 16-14 success, this time over Akroydon Victoria A, which included a superb 21-7 from Martin Smith for the winners and a 21-9 by Mark McGorlick for the losers.

Paul Audsley 21-9 was the pick of eight home winners as Hove Edge B beat Wyke A 20-10, while Ladyhill A carded an impressive 21-9 win at Shipley Club B, aided by Neil Simpson 21-5 and Richard Bloodworth 21-9.

Hove Edge A found it tough going at Pudsey B in a 21-9 loss, with Tom Lawrence 21-7 the pick of seven home winners.

Guiseley A made it successive away wins with a great 16-14 win against Rufford A, thanks to 21-8 winning cards from Gary Whelan and David Norris, despite a great 21-4 from Helen Gilroy.

Andy Bailey’s 21-9 was in vain for Drighlington as they suffered a 17-13 home defeat against Eccleshill B in the Observer League, while Crowghyll A carded an impressive 24-6 home win over Brighouse Sports B, with Steve Alred’s 21-8 the pick of eight host winners.

Ladyhill B edged it 17-13 against Littlemoor B, with Sam Holmes’ 21-7 making the difference.

Wyke B suffered an 18-12 home defeat against newly-promoted Harold Park, who are more than holding their own.
