WEST Bowling had double reason to celebrate as they reached the Senior Cup final and also sealed the Bradford Sunday Alliance League championship courtesy of title rivals Oakenshaw slipping up.

A 4-1 win over Thornbury Celtic secured Bowling's cup passage as they set up a clash with Thornton United, who overcame Allerton on penalties in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, Oakenshaw losing their game in hand at Bradford Phoenix meant Bowling are back-to-back Premier Division champions as they secured the crown for the fifth time in eight seasons.

Bowling's last-four tie proved to be as tight a match as predicted, with Thornbury nearly striking first when a corner was cleared off the line by man of the match Steven Bargh.

There was then a chance at the other end when a good shot by Andrew Kenyon was superbly saved by Celtic keeper Namaan Sarwar.

Bowling opened the scoring after 28 minutes when a long ball into the box by Tom Lambert was met by Aidan Day, who rounded the keeper to score.

Rob McDonald was unlucky not to equalise before the interval when his header hit the top of the bar.

The turning point came when Glyn Hirst outstripped Thornbury's defence and was brought down on the edge of the box, with Ahmed Haseeb dismissed as he was the last defender.

Bowling now pressed forward against the ten men and a Josh Milner corner was headed home by Danny Brown-Weatherhead, before a Milner cross was met by the head of Chris Wood to make it 3-0.

McDonald pulled a goal back but Bowling responded by powering forward again and Day claimed his second goal after exchanging passes with Lambert on the edge of the box before firing into the corner.

The other semi-final, played on an adjacent pitch at Rawdon Meadows, was a much closer affair as it finished 3-3 before being settled by penalties.

Ben Omelia edged Allerton 3-2 in front but goals by Dan Cunningham (2) and Chris Lever for Thornton United meant the tie went to spot-kicks.

The shoot-out saw both teams have their first attempts saved but Ryan Canning held his nerve to secure United's berth in the final alongside treble-seeking West Bowling.

League action saw Oakenshaw miss their chance to extend the season to the final weekend, when they face Bowling in what could have been a Premier Division title decider, as Bradford Phoenix brushed them aside 5-2 at Marley Stadium.

Lyceum wrapped up the Division One title as they beat third-placed Swaine Green for the second time in a week.

They won 5-2 as an Aaron Heywood double was backed up by further goals from Ryan Augla, Kyle Trennary and Glyn Beale.

Lyceum had also defeated Swaine Green in the District Cup semi-finals, setting up an all-Alliance Division One final against second-placed Olympic.

Station Hotel received a minor setback to their Division 1A title chase as they were beaten by the odd goal in three against fourth-placed Wrose Bull.

Division 2A leaders Tyersal hit 11 goals without bottom side Clayton Village Reserves replying, Josh Finnan bagging four.

Turf twice came from behind against Salthorn Victoria to draw 2-2 courtesy of goals by Andy Robinson and Kyle Smith in a dress rehearsal for their cup semi-final at Rawdon Meadows.
