BRADFORD Dudley Hill suffered a shock 24-14 defeat at the hands of neighbours Drighlington in their Kingstone Press National Conference League clash.

Hill were full of confidence going into the game following an unbeaten start from their opening three Division Two fixtures and took to the field resplendent in a newly-presented strip.

Yet Drighlington, despite losing their opening two matches, had every intention of causing an upset, which they duly did.

Dudley Hill coach Jason Lee will have been aware that Drighlington had only narrowly lost both those games and will have warned his players of the potential danger they posed in his preparation.

Even so, Hill were only able to post efforts from Aidey Batley and Andrew Walker, while Simon Sewell kicked both goals.

Pennine League action saw Clayton demolish visitors Wakefield City 50-12 in their final Division Two fixture of the season.

A superb display from the Villagers showed their superior firepower and left them finishing in a respectable fourth place overall.

Devon Gurney scored two tries, with others coming from Jamie Waterman, Phil Redgrave, Simon Giles, Michael Cunliffe, Chris Whitehead, Elliot McElroy and Dane Bairstow, who added seven conversions.

Brighouse Rangers pulled off an outstanding 44-26 victory at Illingworth to reach the final of the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy.

Rangers were 12 points adrift at one point but showed tremendous character to turn the tie on its head.

They got off to the perfect start when centre Liam Stead outstripped the Illingworth defence to score in the corner with just 45 seconds on the clock. Full back Karl Frankland added the extras from a difficult angle.

Forward Richie McGlade proved unstoppable as he barged his way over to extend the lead – but Rangers were then hit by a succession of tries from the visitors.

Inspirational half back Andrew Edmond found Stead with a long pass, allowing him to cross again to stem the tide, and Stead then secured his hat-trick to reduce the deficit to just four points at the break.

Rangers dominated the second half thanks to the tireless work of forwards Lee Robson and Matt Bailey. Stead collected his fourth try, while McGlade also helped himself to a hat-trick.

Anton Ambler and Ben Waud also both got in on the act to touch down and secure Rangers' place in the May final.
