ROMAIN Vincelot reckons City’s ability to change can be their biggest weapon in the promotion fight.

The Bantams are aiming to strengthen their position in Sunday’s televised showdown with play-off rivals Scunthorpe.

Nicky Law’s return will increase Stuart McCall’s options against the side currently two points behind in fifth.

Skipper Vincelot believes one of City’s major strengths is the way they can switch tactics and formation. He played as one of three centre halves against Swindon before reverting back to midfield.

Vincelot said: “I have not played in a team that is able to change as much as we have done before.

“We can do it because there are a lot of experienced players in the team who can understand quickly what is required for that kind of job or position.

“It is good to be able to change things. The more we do it, the more we are going to get used to it.

“It shows the team can adapt to different challenges because it is important as sometimes one system doesn't work and you have to change.

“Tactics are getting really important in football, changing systems to cause problems to the opposition or to adapt when the opposition give you some problems.

“It can be a weapon. It is very important to be open-minded as well to try different things and so far this season it has been working playing different systems.”

City’s hopes of sneaking the second automatic promotion spot diminished with Bolton’s midweek win at Oxford. Phil Parkinson’s men have a six-point advantage on the Bantams with a game in a hand and a superior goal difference.

Vincelot is only focused on securing their place within the top six ahead of the clash with the former League One leaders, who have dropped away in recent weeks.

He added: “There are plenty of points to play for but nothing is done for the play-offs either.

“If you have a bad moment you can lose two on the bounce and then there is pressure. You can't project yourself too far.

“We are in a good position now and if we want to keep that going it is all about the next one.

“I am bored with myself saying that but it is the truth. It's all about the next one which is Scunthorpe which should be a good game on TV.

“They have had a few bad results recently but that doesn't make it any easier.

“It is all about us going there with the right mentality, the right desire and doing everything to get the best result.”

City have earned 24 points from losing positions this season.

Nobody in League One has a better record of bouncing back from falling behind – McCall’s men have a 77 per cent success rate, ahead of leaders Sheffield United (70), Bolton and Scunthorpe (both 50) and Fleetwood (47).

Those powers of recovery were in evidence in last week’s dramatic win over Swindon.

Vincelot said: “They got a goal against the run of play and we had to keep calm and keep going.

“It's good for the future being able to turn things round like that. It shows a strong mentality.

“We knew that when we had scored the late equaliser mentally they would be gone and we had to be ruthless.”
