THE Bradford Bulls Foundation is one of two charities that Bradford Cycle Club have chosen to raise funds for when they undertake their next two-wheeled challenge.

Bradford Cycle Club members are preparing for a 'brutal' ride from Bradford to its twin city Roubaix in France. Roubaix is one of the most famous cycling cities in the world and has many historical links to Bradford.

Taras Stefanyszyn, from Bradford Cycle Club, said: “It’s up to 600 miles of cycling in six days – it’s going to be hard and brutal. However, it's for two great causes."

The ride will raise funds for the Bradford Bulls Foundation – who provide a safe venue for the cyclists to train – and 'Choices 4 All' based at the University of Bradford Union of Students, who enable disabled people to access sports and activities.

Both organisations are supporting the drive for Bradford to mirror its twin city and become known as the capital of cycling for the UK.

La Redoute, the Bradford-based online fashion retailer whose French headquarters are also located in Roubaix, have come on board as title partners for the ride.

The cycle takes place between April 5-11 and will see 16 riders take on the challenging 600-mile journey.

Many of the cyclists will be overcoming their own unique challenges on the ride. For instance, some have overcome health issues, while others have never cycled before.

The ride will be split into two groups – one will take on the famous cobbles of Roubaix where just staying upright is the challenge. Meanwhile, the social ride takes a more scenic route to the city.

All the riders have been invited to a civic reception in Roubaix where gifts from the mayors of both cities will be exchanged.

Bradford Bulls Foundation development officer Duane Scott is taking part in the ride this year – despite being new to cycling.

He said: “It’s going to be one of the toughest things I have ever done, but I am looking forward to taking part in the Challenge with all the other cyclists and raising the profile of cycling in the city."
