FARSLEY Celtic Juniors and Grangefield Old Boys both notched 5-1 away victories in the Premier Division in a curtailed Yorkshire Amateur League programme.

Next-to-bottom hosts Farnley Sports took a shock lead against the second-placed Celts, but the visitors were soon in charge, Josh Maskill and Louis Surtees netting before the break and Joe Firth and leading scorer Danny Lyons (2) after it.

The win put Juniors top of the table but Stanley United, whose game was postponed, have a game in hand and are only two points behind.

Grangefield climbed three places from third from bottom to eighth after a comprehensive win at basement boys Trinity Old Boys, whose goal difference is now minus 54.

Luke Hunter and James Kemp both converted first-half penalties for Grangefield, whose other goals came from Matt Tomlinson, Andy Kenyon and Tom Pickup, but the damage would have been far worse were it not for Trinity's keeper.

Oli Nunwick got their goal – his second in as many matches since moving up from the reserves.

In the Championship Division, improving Calverley United, inspired by their 17-year-old keeper, beat second-placed visitors Morley Town 3-1.

However, United, whose goals came from 17-year-old debutant Louis Squires, Tom Westerman and Kale Thoma, aren't out of the wood yet, despite being eighth, as they have played more matches than anyone in the division.

For example, second-from-bottom Thornesians are nine points behind Calverley, who have 15 points, but have six matches in hand.

Beeston St Anthony's (15 points) and Shire Academics (13 points) both have three matches in hand.

Drighlington are level on points with Morley Town after a 4-2 home victory over third-placed Leeds Medics & Dentists Reserves.

Medics led 1-0 at half-time but Drighlington performed more like a top-three side in the second half, netting via Ryan Rhodes (2), Brett Thompson and leading scorer Shane Sowden.

In Division One, Old Batelians switched their match to opponents Dewsbury Rangers' ground and won 3-0 to stay sixth.

In their second league meeting in eight days, Jermaine Moyce and Luke Adams (penalty) netted in the first half and Robert Johnson in the second half.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves lost 2-0 at home to Huddersfield YMCA – their eighth setback in a row as they remained third from bottom.

The big shock, however, was leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys' 4-1 defeat at bottom club Rothwell.

It was Gildersome's first league defeat of the season as they were "awful and outplayed" but they are still favourites for promotion.
