FARSLEY Celtic consolidated second place in Division One North of the Evo-Stik League with a hard-earned home win over relegation-threatened Prescot Cables.

The Celts broke the deadlock early on as James Walshaw continued his red-hot goal-scoring streak.

A good break and a cross from left back Ryan Serrant had forced a corner, and when it was whipped in Walshaw headed the Celts in front.

The visitors battled well against their title-chasing hosts, but the home side stretched their lead eight minutes into the second half following another set-piece.

A free-kick near the halfway line was pumped forward and, although Aiden Savory’s effort was parried by Cables' keeper, Adam Clayton nodded the rebound in.

Prescot still refused to lie down and halved the deficit just five minutes later when Dominic Marie hit a superb strike from distance to make it 2-1.

It ended that way, however, as the visitors were denied by a post in stoppage time.

Rivals Brighouse Town moved up one place to ninth, despite being held to their 13th league draw of the campaign.

Paul Quinn’s men still harbour hopes of promotion and went ahead at home to play-off rivals Colne when Luke Parkin broke away and steered a shot past visiting keeper Paul Phillips in the second minute.

The Reds continued to threaten and were rewarded when substitute Jason Hart levelled early in the second half.

They edged in front with less than quarter of an hour remaining as Oliver Wood converted former Avenue forward Adam Morning’s cross.

Brighouse battled away though and earned a point from a late spot-kick.

Colne disputed the award but Parkin confidently spotted the ball and sent Phillips the wrong way.
