CHARLIE Wyke has what it takes to become a Valley Parade scoring legend, City fans were told today.

The red-hot hitman has made a flying start for the club with three goals and two assists in his four appearances since making the £250,000 switch from Carlisle.

Wyke is already up to 21 in total for the season, including 16 in his last 20 outings.

Jason Kennedy is not surprised to see his former League Two room-mate hit the ground running with his old club.

He said: “I think Charlie would score in any team. You create the chances and he’ll put them away.

“It was a dream start getting a goal in 15 minutes of his debut and you can see he’s playing full of confidence.

“But I’ve watched him score all sorts of different goals week in, week out with Carlisle.

“His finishing is second to none and I’ve seen his whole game improve with the way he holds the ball up and brings others into play.

“I always knew that he could play at a higher level and carry on what he’s been doing. He’s an unbelievable striker.”

Kennedy insists Wyke won’t be bothered by the sizeable fee City splashed out last month and the expectation of following in James Hanson’s footsteps.

Hanson was a massive part of Bradford but I’m sure Charlie can become a bit of a legend there himself,” he added.

“If he keeps scoring goals and doing what he has been, the world is at his feet. It’s all there in front of him.

“And if Bradford did get up to the Championship, I don’t think that would stop him from scoring. It’s a great challenge for Charlie.

“That big price tag over his head could have made him nervous but he’s a bit thick so it won’t have fazed him!”

Kennedy is enjoying the best season of his career with 11 goals for the League Two promotion-chasers.

The midfielder is currently sidelined as he recovers from a groin operation but admits it is strange not to have close pal Wyke around the Cumbrian club.

“We were practically partners at Carlisle. We’d see each other every day, we car-shared and were in the same room for away games; it was like being in a relationship.

“It’s a bit weird he’s not around anymore. But we still speak all the time and I’m always getting missed calls from him.

“He’s a funny lad and a bit of a character round the dressing room. He’ll have settled in well.

“You can hear how much he’s enjoying it at Bradford and really wants to do well there.

“He’s made the step-up very quickly and I’m sure he will keep improving. I think he’s going to be a big player for Bradford in the future.”
