STUART McCall insists his faith in the City squad remains as strong as ever for the play-off push.

The Bantams will drop out of the top six for the first time this season if Millwall and Southend both win games in hand tonight.

A run of four without a win has allowed the chasing teams to threaten City’s grip on fifth place.

But McCall is confident that his side are playing well enough to stay in the play-off mix during a tense final couple of months.

The City boss said: “We need to start putting together back-to-back victories. We’ve certainly got a side good enough to do that.

“We’re scratching our heads how we didn’t win on Saturday but we’ve done that the majority of the season.

“But there are only two games this season, Accrington at home (in the FA Cup) and Shrewsbury away, when we’ve had really poor 90 minutes.

“We’ve been a match for every team in this league.

“We’ve got such a close-knit squad and fan base so let’s bring these last 13 games on. I wish we were playing tonight.”

City have blown half-time leads against promotion rivals in their last two games, losing 2-1 at Fleetwood a week ago and then seeing Bolton come back from two down for a draw at Valley Parade.

But they still have a point more compared with the same stage last season when Phil Parkinson’s team went on to book a play-off spot with a game to spare.

McCall anticipates plenty of twists and turns before the League One curtain comes down at Rochdale on April 30.

He added: “We got a point against Bolton who are up there but you look at other results.

“I thought Southend and Rochdale would both win and they only drew as well. But that shows how tight it is.

“If we’d lost on Saturday, it wouldn’t have mattered in terms of us getting in the play-offs.

“We wouldn’t have come off the pitch if that had happened thinking ‘right, we’ll go on holiday now’.

“Likewise, if we’d won it wouldn’t have said we’re definitely going to be in the play-offs.

“We’ve got 39 points to play for. Let’s go win most of the games.

“I wish Port Vale was tonight not Saturday, that’s our focus and then MK Dons at Valley Parade next week.

“There’s no negativity in our dressing room and I’m sure there won’t be with the 1,000 (fans) who’ll got to Port Vale.”

Millwall take on second-from-bottom Chesterfield at the Den; Southend, who are also two points behind City, go to ninth-placed Peterborough.

Posh, currently three off the play-offs, then face Rochdale and Millwall before heading to Valley Parade a week on Saturday.

“It’s all to play for,” said McCall. “There are a lot of good sides up there – Millwall, Southend, Rochdale and Fleetwood.

“But we as a coaching staff have got so much belief in the players here.

“We’ll go into these 13 games in good form football-wise.

“We know we need to pick more points up but if we can tighten up defensively with the attacking options we have, we’re aiming to get enough results to make sure we are in the play-offs.”
