STUART McCall has revealed that City have turned down Sheffield United's bid for James Hanson.

The striker was left out of this afternoon's 1-1 draw with Millwall after being made aware of the Blades' interest.

McCall also confirmed that a Championship club had contacted him about Hanson earlier in the week.

Asked about Sheffield United's offer, the City boss said: "There's been a bid put in but it hasn't been accepted and I don't think it will be.

"Discussions will need to be made but James hasn't gone yet.

"It was disappointing that James got to know about it because we would have needed him in a physical game."

Blades boss Chris Wilder said: "We have put a bid in, it’s up to Bradford whether they accept that.

"He is still their player, we have put a bid in, if it doesn’t get accepted we will move on.”

McCall was delighted with City's efforts against a play-off rival as they came back from a goal down through James Meredith.

He added: "The response was perfect and I’ve got to say a big ‘well done’ to the crowd. When Millwall’s goal went in, it would have been easy for them to moan and groan but they lifted the players.

"It keeps the gap between us and them. We know they are a good side.

“I’ve said before that Billy Sharp's was probably the best individual performance we’ve seen here against us. But in (Steve) Morison and (Lee) Gregory as a partnership, that’s as dangerous as any in this league.

“The first half was quite end to end but in the second we were brave on the ball. The pitch is getting a bit difficult now but we played some really good stuff.”
