WYKE Wanderers, hoping to stop a run of bad West Yorkshire League results, lost their mid-table Division One clash 2-1 at Huddersfield Amateurs.

Wanderers had the worst possible start, when Amateurs went in front after two minutes, but rallied and equalised via Sibu Moyo after 35 minutes.

Wyke looked the more likely to score again before the interval but Huddersfield dominated the second half and went in front before thwarting the visitors' attempts to equalise.

Wanderers are seventh in the table, 15 points behind Hartshead but with three games in hand.

Field's eagerly-anticipated clash with Premier Division leaders Carlton Athletic was postponed because of a frozen pitch at Hollingwood Lane.

The Bradford side are fifth, 16 points behind Carlton, but Steve Vickers' team have a game in hand on the Wakefield-based front-runners.

Wyke Wanderers Reserves and Field Reserves had no scheduled matches in Alliance Division One – but Baildon Trinity Athletic came away from Kellingley Welfare with a 3-1 victory in Division Two.

Baildon opened the scoring after 25 minutes when forward Steve Sample caused all kinds of problems in the penalty area and was brought down by a Kellingley centre half. Captain Elliot Moody stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and give Trinity the lead.

But Kellingley equalised when a defensive mix up between Baildon centre half Graham Carney and goalkeeper Dave Naylor led to the former player heading the ball past his team-mate to give Welfare a way back into the game.

Trinity came out for the second half with a renewed sense of urgency and were unfortunate not to have found themselves ahead ten minutes after the break following good work from Sample, who found fellow striker Lee Mathers free in the area with the shot coming down off the crossbar.

Baildon did manage to take advantage on 65 minutes when a corner whipped in by Darren Rands was met powerfully by the head of Will Hawksworth.

The game was sealed with ten minutes remaining after good work by substitute James Pinto, whose floated cross came back off the bar and was met by the head of Sample.

* In the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy, Baildon Trinity Athletic progressed two weekends ago thanks to a 3-2 win against Rolls Reserves from the Craven League.

On target for Baildon were Elliot Moody, Will Hawksworth and Lee Mathers, with Dan Jowett named man of the match.

Athletic will now travel to Huddersfield YMCA Reserves in the last 16 on Saturday, February 4.
