AT least one of the finalists in this season’s West Riding County Cup showpiece at Valley Parade will be from the area after three of the local clubs reached the last four in midweek.

Brighouse Town being the first to book their semi-final spot on Monday night. Paul Quinn’s men knocked out Evo-Stik Division One North rivals Ossett Town 2-0 thanks to brace from Tom Dugdale.

Holders Bradford Park Avenue edged through the following night at the expense of Harrogate Town in a re-run of last season’s final. Luke Dean, Lee Spires and Emile Sinclair were all on target in a 3-1 win.

There was a lot of interest in the big derby at Throstle Nest as Farsley Celtic beat a young Guiseley side 4-2. Lewis Nightingale, Richard Marshall, James Walshaw and Jordan Deacey, who are all former Avenue players, were the scorers for the Celts.

Silsden could have guaranteed an all local final. In a competition that includes both Harrogate clubs, both Ossett clubs, and clubs as far a field as Knaresborough, Barnoldswick, Armthorpe and Goole, but the Cobbydalers lost 4-1 at Tadcaster Albion.

The semi-final draw was made on Wednesday and Avenue will host Farsley while Brighouse have home advantage against Tadcaster.

Following Tuesday’s win at Harrogate, Bradford boss Bower said: “It was pleasing to win but it’s obviously not our priority – that has to be survival in the National North.

“It was good to get a victory at Harrogate just a few days before we go there for a league game and we got a few lads some much needed time on the pitch. It’s always nice to get through to the next round and that takes on another dimension now that we know that it’s Farsley Celtic.

“Farsley coming to Horsfall Stadium will throw up a lot of old club scenarios. I think most of their squad have played here for Avenue and John Deacey is coming back in the away dugout and James Knowles is up against his former club.

“I think it’ll be a very good semi-final and one that a lot of people will be looking forward to.”
