ROHAN Smith has a near fully-fit squad to work with as he moulds the new Bulls in his first pre-season.

Centre Alex Foster is recovering from a hip problem that has hampered his arrival at his boyhood club.

Otherwise Smith has a full complement to get his ideas across for the next Championship campaign.

"There are a few little niggles but we are pretty close," said the Aussie head coach.

"Alex Foster is the only longer-term one. He had a chronic injury in London but he's managed that and we will let him heal.

"Pretty much everyone else is at least 75-80 per cent of full training. That's about where you want to be at this stage.

"It's still early. It's my first pre-season here and it's about getting a feeling for what the guys are capable of.

"We're putting a lot of work into them and they have dealt with it really well. The strength and conditioning and medical staff are working hard to make sure they get people out for training.

"A lot of players might have been unsure what I was about before pre-season started. But we're building something together with the new roster.

"It's not about me. It's about the team and everyone has a common goal.

"Players like stability and structure. That's what we are aiming to provide for them and they are enjoying what we're throwing at them."

The Bulls are scheduled to play their first friendly at Batley on January 15 ahead of the big kick-off against Hull KR three weeks later.

Smith said: "That's the difference to what I'm used to back home. After Christmas, there's always a four-week block of training before the season starts.

"That's usually the hardest part for players to stick at. But here, straight after Christmas you're pretty much into it."
